Google AI Tools to Fight Android Scams

Google recently introduced two advanced AI-powered tools to identify conversational and text-based fraud on Android devices. These tools, announced in an official Google blog post on March 4th, aim to enhance user security against the growing threats in the digital space.

Built on traditional spam protection systems, these technologies now offer real-time alerts by detecting suspicious patterns in messages and calls—while prioritizing user privacy as a core principle.

AI-Powered Fraud Detection in Google Messages

This feature automatically analyzes suspicious messages in SMS, MMS, and RCS formats and alerts users when unusual patterns are detected. Users can ignore the alert or choose to report and block the sender. All message processing happens locally on the device to safeguard personal data. Currently, this feature is available in English for users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, with plans to expand to more countries soon.

Fraud Detection for Android Voice Calls

The new tool identifies suspicious calls by processing the call audio directly on the device without recording or storing the user’s voice. This feature is disabled by default and activates only during calls from unknown potential fraudsters. When enabled, it alerts participants with a beep to encourage cautious behavior. According to Google’s surveys, these features have significantly helped prevent voice-based fraud.
